Raphael Heftis fascination with industrial processes and materials began with experimentations the workshop, particularly with what can happen when things dont go as planned. Using heavy metals, coated glass, and even moss spores, his surprisingly colourful and dynamic works blur the boundaries between natural and industrial, abstract and representational. The Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles invited Hefti to create a permanent installation on the roof of its glazed extension in 2014, transforming the buildings entrance lobby into a subtle, constantly shifting chromatic environment. This book presents the process of its creation, and an overview of other recent work by the artist.
