The history of the fascist social state is a chapter that largely remains to be written; Indeed, the regime's social policies are still evaluated today more in terms of the propaganda and self-representation that Fascism chose to convey than in terms of the concrete results it achieved. This volume brings together new research on this fundamental chapter of the fascist experience, addressing institutional, social and ideological aspects and highlighting the continuities and ruptures represented by fascist social policy. By examining the campaigns against tuberculosis or migration policies, the management of health mutual funds or child welfare initiatives, it reveals the contradictory role the regime assigned to social policies and how they helped define and shape the relationship between the duties of the fascist state and the benefits for the working citizen.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
" Ilaria Pavan is Full Professor of Contemporary History at IMT - Scuola Alti Studi Lucca. Her main fields of research include the history of the Italian welfare state, the history of Fascism and fascist antisemitism. Irene Stolzi is Full Professor of History of Law at the Department of Legal Sciences, University of Florence, where she teaches courses on 20th-century law, the history of constitutionalism and welfare. Ilaria Pavan is Full Professor of Contemporary History at IMT - Scuola Alti Studi Lucca. Her main fields of research include the history of the Italian welfare state, the history of Fascism and fascist antisemitism. Irene Stolzi is Full Professor of History of Law at the Department of Legal Sciences, University of Florence, where she teaches courses on 20th-century law, the history of constitutionalism and welfare. Simona Salustri e professoressa associata di Storia della pedagogia presso l'Universita di Modena e Reggio Emilia. Fa parte del direttivo del Centro italiano per la ricerca storico-educativa (Cirse) e del comitato editoriale della Rivista di storia dell'educazione. Le sue ricerche si concentrano sulla storia delle Universita e dell'alta formazione, e sulle forme educative scolastiche ed extrascolastiche. "
