Saint Zita of Lucca was born in a poor hill village near Lucca. At twelve she was sent into service, and she spent nearly fifty years in the household of the Fatinelli family. Her work was scrubbing floors, lighting fires, baking bread and carrying water. She wrote no books and founded no religious order. The Church later honored her as the patroness of domestic servants.
This book her tells story as the accounts hand it down. It covers her childhood, her early years in the Fatinelli house, her acts of charity, her prayer, and her last days.
Some of the stories, such as the bread that turned to roses and the loaves finished by angels, come to us through tradition rather than through documents a historian could test. The book presents them as the faithful have received them.
Each chapter ends with a few questions for reflection and a short prayer.
This book is for readers interested in Catholic saints, in the lives of ordinary workers, and in the stories of women who served quietly in homes and households.
