Praise begins when our attention moves from ourselves to God. Church can easily become a place where we arrive asking what we will receive: a blessing, encouragement, fellowship, healing for a wounded heart, or a word that will carry us through the week. These needs are real, yet worship invites us further. We come not only to receive but also to give: thanksgiving, honour, surrender, love and praise.
Biblical praise is a response to revelation. We see something of God's holiness, mercy, majesty, faithfulness and saving power, and our hearts answer. Praise is therefore more than a musical style. It can be spoken, sung, prayed, testified, played on instruments, expressed spontaneously, or carried quietly in a life of obedience.
The sermon behind this book repeatedly asks a simple question: Do we praise? That question reaches beyond Sunday. Praise belongs in the home, in the car, at work, in disappointment, in celebration, in the ordinary hours and in the extraordinary moments. The call is not to manufacture emotion but to acknowledge God for who He is.
Praise also changes the atmosphere of the believer's inner life. It does not pretend that trouble is absent. Rather, it refuses to allow trouble to become greater in our vision than God. When praise becomes a habit, fear is challenged by remembrance, discouragement is answered by thanksgiving, and isolation is interrupted by the awareness of God's presence.
