Inhaltsangabe

The crew of the Starcruiser Galaxy spent everything they had on a new ship. They arrived to collect it and found an empty piece of space where the shipyard used to be.

Not the ship. The shipyard. Omnicore Industries Starship Construction Station 23, two Federation dreadnaughts under construction, and eleven years of Captain Mintax's savings, all of it simply gone.

Omnicore is very sorry. Omnicore is not offering a refund.

So the crew goes looking for whoever did it. That turns out to mean the Irridium Syndicate, a man named Daro, and a trail that runs through a star that fires without warning, a stretch of three days adrift with nobody answering their distress calls, and considerably more zombies than anyone had planned for.

They are broke. Their ship is held together by persistence and one corridor panel you have to hit in exactly the right place. And Goober has quietly put what was left of the money into a stimulant company trading at two hundredths of a credit, on the grounds that he likes it.

Book One of the Adventures of the Starcruiser Galaxy, revised and expanded.

Fast, funny space opera with real stakes, and a crew who are very good at this for reasons that are never entirely clear. About 66,000 words.
