Content in Context — Second Edition: How AI World Models Are Rewriting the Rules of Knowledge
The first edition argued that content without context is just noise. That argument hasn't changed. What has changed is everything around it. The internet is now flooded with more synthetic content than human writing, the world is generating over 230 zettabytes of data a year, and AI systems have stopped being simple pattern matchers and started building something closer to real models of how the world works.
This second edition rebuilds the book around that shift. It explains what AI world models actually are and why anyone managing content should care, makes the case for context engineering as the discipline that's replaced prompt engineering, and borrows the governing equation from the companion volume, the Skill Stack Framework: EQ times AI equals Human Judgment. Content in context, the book argues, is what keeps that equation honest, the difference between AI that multiplies real judgment and AI that multiplies confident noise at scale.
It also introduces the Content Altitude Model, a six-layer maturity framework for climbing from a scattered, untrusted pile of documents to content rich enough to support real prediction, with named examples across SaaS, healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and retail at every layer.
This isn't a eulogy for the open internet, though it spends real time on what genuinely worries the authors about where it's headed. It's a practical case that organizations treating content as infrastructure, structured, governed, and built for human and machine readers alike, are the ones who'll turn today's chaos into next decade's advantage.
