It moves. It MOVES. It moves a LOT. And Wren has never had a tooth that isn't completely stuck.
So Wren gets a tin ready. A purple tin, with a lid, for keeping a tooth in.
And then Wren waits.
Wren tries an apple. The apple loses. The tooth stays on. Wren tries wiggling it at half past three and half past four and half past tea. Wren has a plan involving string, and a door, and a slam, and a grown-up says absolutely not.
The tin stays empty. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.
Until a grown-up sits down on the floor, and doesn't say soon, and doesn't say it won't be long, and says the only true thing there is:
"You can't boss a tooth. You can only keep it company."
So Wren stops pushing. And a Monday goes by. And a Thursday full of rain and glue. And then, in the middle of a laugh about a thing that wasn't even funny, the tooth just goes. And Wren wasn't even there. Wren was busy laughing.
A warm, funny rhyming read-aloud about the longest wait a small person ever sits through.
