Inhaltsangabe

The job you thought you'd retire from is gone.

There is a long shelf of books about the four hours a day you will spend looking for the next one. How to fix the resume. How to work the interview. How to make the profile findable. Some of them are good.

This book is about the other twenty hours.

The ones after you close the laptop. The ones where there is nothing left to apply to and nothing to do but sit in it. Three in the morning, staring at the ceiling, running the same loop you ran last night and the night before that. Nobody writes about those hours. That is the only reason this book exists.

WHO THIS IS FOR

If you are somewhere in your forties, fifties, or sixties, and you are out of work, however it happened ... laid off, pushed out, fired, or you finally walked ... this was written for you.

And if some part of you is wondering whether the next thing has to be just another job, that question is the reason to read it. Not because you should walk away from employment. Because you have never had a better moment to actually evaluate it, and you will not get this moment again.

WHAT IT IS

Nine steps, in three acts, built out of two job losses and a career spent turning organizations around.

Act I. BUILD. Get up off the floor.
Act II. DEPLOY. Get back into the world.
Act III. FORTIFY. Guard what you rebuilt, so the next hit does not take you all the way down.

Every step ends with one thing you can do today. Not someday. Today.

WHAT IT IS NOT

It is not a job search manual and it will not fix your resume.

It is not anti-job either. Run this process, take another role, and you will walk in with a clearer head and a clearer sense of what you are actually there to do. That is not a consolation prize. That is the whole benefit, delivered.

And it does not promise you smooth water. Better is a direction, not a destination.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Cory Geffre is a C-suite executive who spent a career running large organizations and turning them around. He has had the floor go out from under him twice, and neither time did the credentials stop it. He wrote this one the way he wished somebody had written it for him.

"I will end up not back where I was, but even in a better place."

You are just down. You are not done.
