Prior to the Babylonian destruction of the Temple in 586 BCE and the exile of the Judahite elite, the Israelite religion was henotheistic. While Yahweh was the accepted local god, the Israelites recognized the validity of other deities. Ezra introduced a new concept: Yahweh was no longer a local god, but a universal one, the creator of the universe. Ezra's revolution created Monotheism and gave rise eventually to Christianity and Islam.
