The world does not belong to the gods, nor does it belong to men. It belongs to the gears that grind them both.
At the absolute center of the civilized world lies the Aurelian Empire, a monolith of iron, coal, and blood. Its crown jewel is the Sun Spire, a towering mountain of white marble and reinforced glass that pierces the heavens. Up there, in the clean air of the high rings, the nobility feast on imported delicacies and trade political favors under a pristine sky. They believe they are the apex of creation.
But the Spire cannot float without an anchor.
Directly beneath the marble floors of the elite lies the Dredge. It is a subterranean abyss, a sprawling maze of foundries, steam-vents, and smog-choked slums where millions of workers spend their short lives feeding the furnaces. In the Dredge, the sky is made of rusted iron grates, the air tastes of sulfur, and a slow death known as Iron-Lung is the only true inheritance. Here, gold does not rule—the Guild Masters and the criminal syndicates dictate the price of survival in the dark.
To the East, separated by a volatile strait, lies Vaeloria. Where the Empire conquered through engineering, Vaeloria conquered through the perversion of nature. It is a kingdom powered by seeded magic—a volatile, green life force forcibly extracted from the earth and chained inside black iron spires. It is a land of beautiful, predatory mages who view the mechanical technology of the Empire as a primitive heresy, waiting for the perfect moment to watch the Sun Spire burn.
And to the far, freezing North lies the Skovari Reach. It is a wild, forgotten territory of jagged peaks, ancient jade forests, and lethal, crystalline predators. The Empire views the Skovari as feral heathens, entirely unaware that the deep blue magic pulsing within the mountain calderas holds a primordial power that predates their cities, their kings, and their gears.
For a century, these factions have existed in a state of suffocating tension. A cold war maintained by fragile treaties, trade embargoes, and the absolute isolation of the ancient artifacts.
But a machine with too much internal pressure will always explode. The King is failing. The borders are fracturing. The keys to the ancient fires are waking up.
And from the highest spires to the deepest ash, the world is about to learn that when a kingdom falls, it is the innocent who are crushed beneath the scrap metal.
