Inhaltsangabe

"Cois Fharraige & Spiddal - A History" is an indispensable resource for those researching this region of County Galway in the Connacht province of Ireland. Cois Fharraige (By the Sea) is the North Galway Bay coastal area running west from around Barna to the Cloghmore South vicinity (south of Rosseveal). The author, John Keavy, uses oral histories, newspaper articles, court reporting, parliamentary transcripts, and other source materials to paint a picture of life along North Galway Bay through the years. Whether you are a Folan, Flynn McDonough, O'Connor, Feeny, Tearney, Flaherty, Curran, Connolly, Walsh, Lydon, Martin, or Cook descendant, or you simply appreciate the well-researched insight into life in a special part of Western Galway; you'll find this book of great value. It covers early landowners, churches, public health, public life, the Great Famine, the Spiddal Orphanage, the Spiddal Fishery, and the Spiddal Races, as well as a detailed history of several prominent families from the area.
