Inhaltsangabe

How to Rest, Kate LaDow's debut poetry collection, explores the complexities of motherhood, marriage, and personal growth. In a world that often demands too much, LaDow’s verse invites readers to pause, reflect, and seek stillness amidst the chaos.

A book for anyone craving space to breathe, How to Rest is a reminder that rest is not indulgence but necessity. Like a conversation with a friend, these poems offer a quiet place to land in the whirlwind of modern life.

LaDow has a gift for taking what seems to be a mundane detail and infusing it with so much life, grief, absurdity, joy—whatever the moment calls for. Both intimate and universal, How to Rest speaks to our longing for balance. It reminds us that stillness is not absence, but presence.

“As mother, as wife, daughter, woman, the weight of the future speaks in conversation with history and memory, and family’s tightening tangles. The poems are gently ornate, and reflect the held-breath of mystery — each poem is offered as a kind of exhale.”

–– Amy Bornman, author of Broken Waters

“The poems shine with children's voices and glimmer with the inevitable grief that comes with loving deeply. Kate LaDow offers wisdom not only for her children but for all of us.”

–– Emilie Lygren, author of What We Were Born For
