Making Way: Poems of Conscience can be read as a single long poem, a one-breath, heart-felt, extended metaphor of consciousness. Or they may be read as 30 discreet poems each beginning with an epigraph by an Indigenous thought leader, creative writer, and/or eco-activist. These poems offer a daughter's perspective in the shadow of Western Civilization while simultaneously celebrating our embodied relationship with Earth and Cosmos. By embracing poetry's healing power, these poems recognize rupture and create possibilities for repair. This book is an invitation to regenerate and transform our inner and outer lives at this time of increased violence and polycrisis. They place this moment in the larger frame of human history and speak of resistance, resilience, possibility, persistence and the power of bearing witness.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor
Ann Filemyr, PhD, has published seven books of poetry, as well as essays, chapters, and articles in journals, text books, and works of memoir and creative nonfiction. She is the Founder and Director of the PhD program in Visionary Practice & Regenerative Leadership at Southwestern College, a consciousness-based graduate school in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Its unique structure is based on the Spiral Dance or Serpent Dance, an ancient line dance that embodies the non-linearity of time, memory, consciousness, and lived experience. Through the choreographed pattern of step, step, step back, the movement of the dance as represented in these pages suggests the pace of change cannot only be forward momentum. There is both forward movement and the critical step back, inviting pause, reflection, redirection, remembering. The invitation of this book is to share these poems in community, read them aloud, respond and raise your own voice to speak openly of humanity's past experience, life in the present, and hope for the future. The poems not only bear witness but also express what it is to be alive amidst the polycrisis.
