This novel is set in a future utopia where the Christian West has accepted a formal Social Class System that includes Christian Churches as a part of its ruling class hierarchy of power. Within this System, social classes are used as a means for maintaining social order and establishing social justice. In this future, a romance develops between a man traumatized by war and life and a woman who is above his social class. This novel uses the man's struggles with his nihilism and this couple's struggle to grow in love in a world that rejects them as a means for philosophical and theodicy contemplation of the concept of "justice" in social life and among individuals. This book is a combination of the writing themes of Albert Camus, Dostoevsky, "Brave New World", and "A Farewell to Arms" and seeks to renew these themes for a post-modern audience of readers. This book is “a delivery system for enough philosophy to keep the School of Athens busy into the AI age” — Kirkus Reviews.
