The Lord Jesus said that “Men ought always to pray and not faint.” When confronted by the serious challenge of supporting the neglected members of the new church, the apostles, who were His closest companions, said, “We will give ourselves to prayer and the ministry of the word.”
Paul, the most eminent messenger of our Lord, exhorted the church to:
“ Pray without ceasing.”

From the command of the Master, the commitment, and the exhortation from the founding fathers of the church above, we can deduce that prayer must be important. Yes indeed. Prayer is particularly important. In fact, to be a successful Christian in life and service, prayer is an absolute necessity. It’s as essential to the follower of Christ as air is to life. When someone stops breathing, he is said to be dead. So, it is in the kingdom and with the children of God. A believer who is not earnestly praying is dead spiritually. There is no other way about it. To be a prayerless believer is an undesirable state to be as a Christian. As the saying goes, 'A prayerless christian is a powerless christian.'
Prayer, then, is the most important spiritual activity in a believer’s life. Because prayer connects man with the unlimited power of God, which makes human impossibilities possible, it attracts unimaginable blessings. Prayers produce breakthroughs that change unpleasant stories of life. It transforms embarrassments into joy and celebration. Prayer is the source of the greatest power known to man. Through the power of prayer, according to biblical accounts, Haggai obtained divine provision when she was driven away from home and was helpless. By prayers, the children of Israel secured divine deliverance from the crushing captivity in Egypt. Jabez changed his destiny of hardship and suffering to a life of supernatural abundance and honour with the power of prayer. Prayer delivered Daniel and his companion from the sword of the cruel king, Nebuchadnezzar, in Babylon when the king demanded that his counsellors interpret his dream, which he had forgotten.
Prayer secured deliverance for Peter when Herod planned to kill him in the Acts of the Apostles. Nothing is impossible to the power of prayer because nothing is too hard for our God, who answers prayers.
