Ashok’s Song remains, first and foremost, a love story. Ash has grown from a starry-eyed dreamer to an adult who understands that love can’t solve every conflict. His newfound maturity only strengthens his bond with Cade as the two of them face the challenge of raising Lyn while adapting to a new culture. They will learn much from the Remainders of Gazaroth as Cade’s music and Ash’s practical skills give them a welcome place in the North Highlands.
All goes well until Carmora Mineral brings turmoil to Gazaroth. The industrial conglomerate’s high-handed management practices and arrogant security staff offend the Remainders, and the poorly-paid guest workers they exploit are from Vaenope, Cade’s home planet. When Ash gets a job supervising Carmora’s new construction, he learns how deep the corruption really is. What seems like a routine visit to Vaenope will involve Ash, Cade, Lyn, and others in dangerous interplanetary conflict. The Sackers, now employed by Carmora, have taken up practices even more abhorrent than theft and murder. The next attack touches Ash and Cade personally, and they join the Interplanetary League to fight the evil that threatens the Far Worlds. The strongest weapons they have are Ash’s knife skills, Cade’s shapeshifting, and the recently-revealed true nature of the profound love between them.
