The story of John Joseph Lynch, Irishman and Glaswegian who left his home in the Gorbals to fight in the Spanish Civil War. One of a number of brave men who risked their lives in an attempt to stop fascism before the Second World War. He was lucky that he returned when many of his comrades did not. This book the explains the forces that steered him to take up arms in a foreign country and tells the story of his role in the main battles for Madrid. The story continues back in Glasgow and identifies a number of men from that one small, and at times infamous part of Glasgow, who took part in that conflict.
