Sara Pickett is the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS) at Spalding University and an adjunct instructor in the Counseling and Student Affairs Department at Western Kentucky University. A licensed professional counselor with more than a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Pickett has worked extensively in counselor education, clinical supervision, and mental health leadership. Prior to assuming the directorship at Spalding, she served as a full-time faculty member at Western Kentucky University and previously held a faculty appointment at Spalding University. Her professional interests include trauma-informed care, intersectionality, disaster mental health, counselor development, resilience, and social justice–oriented approaches to counseling and supervision. Dr. Pickett is an active scholar, presenter, and editor whose research explores topics such as internalized sexism, gendered experiences in counseling, trauma recovery, and mental health equity. She is the recipient of the Kentucky Counseling Association Outstanding Counselor Educator Award and has secured multiple competitive research and teaching grants in support of her scholarly work. In addition to leading CaPS and teaching graduate counseling students, Dr. Pickett maintains a private counseling practice, provides clinical supervision to counselors-in-training, and is committed to expanding access to evidence-based, culturally responsive mental health services for diverse communities.
