To light a fire in the hearts and minds of many is the true purpose of education. The campuses built to teach our youth, the curricula crafted and stuffed into their heads, and the activities scheduled inside and outside of the classroom are often not what children (especially boys) need.
Peter Searby has a creative mind and an educator's heart. The restlessness he felt as a boy, boxed into a desk in a classroom, carried over into adulthood and morphed into a general dissatisfaction with the educational system. And so, in 2013, he co-founded the Riverside Club for Adventure and Imagination in order to help children, but boys in particular, live a more imaginative and adventurous childhood and discover their creative gift. For the last decade, Riverside has been fulfilling a vision of education as it should be: a way to light a fire in the hearts and minds of the young so that they find beauty, goodness, and truth through learning.
Casting Fire is the next step. This book is meant to be a sounding call for all of those interested in rekindling curiosity and creativity in learning. It is a way to cast the Riverside vision like a fire that lights up what is deep inside and acts as a lantern along a journey.
