This book is not for people who do not believe in God. Nor is it a book for people who have an answer for every question. It really is for people who are thoughtful, truth-seeking and who are curious about history and what it means for them. People who wish to see if there is a purpose of life in a streaming time, while we know that our minds are limited in terms of intellect and mysteries of the Universe that are often hard to understand.
I’ve been a practicing Muslim for the past forty-five years. I’ve read the English translation of the Quran twenty-five times. It has always bothered me as to why, despite having the best guidance from the Quran, Muslims were so backward and unable to take care of themselves. It’s not that they were always like this. They led impressive countries and excelled in science and technology for close to 1000 years (800 – 1800 AD), but for the past few hundred years or so, they’ve withered.
In this book, I trace the reasons for Muslim backwardness and offer a few suggestions for improvement. As part of this, I’ve written down roughly 150 verses from the Quran that I’ve not seen Muslims to be aware of, in meaning or import. As a matter of fact, most Muslims don’t read the Quran in a language they understand. They revere it, but don’t understand it. The verses mentioned here offer enlightening guidance and open the door to further learning.
