When a child has to move elsewhere with their family or whatnot, how are they supposed to remember that special friend they once had? Do they even still have that person as a friend? Also, how are they supposed to remain happy through what must be a very difficult transition in their young life?
Author A.J. Chilson provides at least one good solution in his children's book A Drawing of My Forever Friend. In it, a young boy draws a picture of the female friend who meant so much to him. They keep in touch, by way of phone calls, albeit from a greater distance. Not only do such things keep the boy happy, but reflecting on the good moments he had with that friend does, too. Also, the boy longs for that special moment when he sees his friend again.
What A Drawing of My Forever Friend does is demonstrate the following point: when one friend has to bid farewell to another, they are not saying "goodbye," but "see you later."
