Inhaltsangabe

Rapid industrialization and urbanization has led to the widespread presence of heavy metals in the environment, resulting in their assimilation into the food chain and subsequent ecological disruption. Elevated concentrations of heavy metals interfere with the normal functioning of diverse physiological and biochemical systems in plants. To address these challenges, different management strategies have been developed to promote higher seed germination, greater seedling growth, increased biomass, stronger defense systems, and improved physiological adjustment in crops exposed to heavy metals. Mitigation of Metal Toxicity in Plants critically examines the impact of heavy metal contamination on crop growth and agricultural productivity. The book provides an in-depth analysis of diverse mitigation strategies, including the application of phytohormones, natural plant extracts, beneficial microorganisms, and water purification technologies aimed at reducing heavy metal uptake and toxicity in plants. By integrating physiological, biochemical, and sustainable management approaches, this book presents practical and environmentally sound solutions to alleviate metal-induced stress and enhance crop resilience and productivity. Covering topics such as morpho-physiological and biochemical insights, physiological responses and plant growth regulators, this book is an excellent academic resource for graduate and doctoral students, crop exporters, food industry practitioners, plant breeders, and more.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Riaz Ahmad completed his Ph.D. at Department of Horticulture, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan. Currently, serving as Lecturer at The University of Agriculture, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan. He is working on the characterization of horticultural crops through morphological, biochemical, and molecular approaches. Moreover, he is also working in the area of abiotic stress tolerance through phytohormones, biostimulants, and omics strategies in horticulture crops. He is an expert researcher in the area of abiotic stress such as salinity, drought, and heavy metals. Apart from this, he also has expertise in the use of plant leaf extract on numerous horticulture crops against abiotic stress tolerance focusing on higher yield. His findings have generated more than 60 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals.
