Nearing the end of a fifty-year science and mathematics teaching career, he currently teaches mathematics at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. After winning two recent national senior championships in the javelin throw, he attributed his success to throwing flintstones at fence posts during his early childhood days in the Flint Hills.
