Enclosed are ten years worth of my most creative and visually rich poetry. Each one uniquely pushes the envelope of concrete poetry, which is "poetry where the meaning or effect is conveyed by visual means, using patterns of words or letters." Let me show you an example:

The contents of the poems in this book are deeply inspired by my Christian faith and are intended to encourage the reader, honor God, and process this difficult life. Additionally, all of the them feature an analysis that explains its inspiration, poetic content, and concrete format. 

With its perfect mixture of logic and creativity, concrete poetry captured and inspired me to think outside the box in a unique and meaningful way. My mathematical side, which earned me a Mechanical Engineering degree, enjoyed laying out and working within the limits of the various “rules” that each form prescribed. My artsy side, which paints, plays the piano, and swing dances, relished the elegance and deep significance that could be brought out by the poetic language. With my unique interests and abilities, it would seem as if God had created me with concrete poetry in mind. Initially, these poems were completed for my own appreciation, and maybe for a few other people as gifts, but I didn’t think about sharing them with a wider audience until much later. 

The reason you are reading this now is because of a book called, Images and Idols by Ryan Lister and Thomas Terry, which unpacks creativity’s valuable role in a Christian’s life. It encouraged me to consider my creativity from God’s perspective. Specifically, I was encouraged to compile my “creative” poems to reflect God’s ultimate creativity and to bring Him more glory. 

I hope you take the time to experience my unique style of concrete poetry. My aim is to leave you encouraged, amazed, and uplifted.
