Inhaltsangabe

This is the unique story of Allied and German soldiers taking part in the Battle for Normandy. Based on the author’s own interviews with veterans and sometimes, their descendants from 1974 – 1981.

This book is the first in a series of three books covering the complete Normandy Campaign from 5th June through 25th August 1944. “The First Crucial Days” cover the first dramatic days of the Campaign.

For many years Arve R. Pisani collected first– hand accounts from more than 300 World War II veterans on both sides of the conflict. Through interviews, telephone conversations, personal correspondence, and primary documents he crafted an intimate narrative of their time in Normandy. Many of these stories, both unique and familiar, have never been told. The account is enhanced by extensive research of primary sources – including after action reports, combat interviews, small unit studies, and unpublished documents – to add strategic depth and historical analysis. The result is an uncompromising account of the summer of 1944.

Arve Robert Pisani is a Norwegian author with a deep appreciation for history. He began researching the Normandy campaign in 1974 and spent seven years interviewing and corresponding with more than three hundred World War II veterans. He has stayed in touch with many of the veterans and relatives up to this day. He is also the author of the booklet, “The Carentan Causeway,” a brief but significant moment during the Allied advance after D-Day. Senior Writer Greg Kier, for Parallax Films, White Rock, Canada, which focuses on World War II docuseries, wrote in an email, “In writing this episode I made good use of your book, The Carentan Causeway. Thanks for all the research and hard work.”
