This book’s breadth encompasses a detailed history of the kalimba in Africa, kalimba technique, an introduction and explanation of kalimba tablature notation system, kalimba exercises and games, well known folk songs, nursery rhymes, and beloved classical songs. The book is progressive, very simple at the very beginning, but achieving some pretty cool music by the end.

Kalimba technique includes: instrument set up and tine painting, instrument tuning, glissando for chord playing, adding chords to melodies, and harmonizing melodies. Exercises include: scales, chords, patterns, two simultaneous patterns, and music to familiarize the reader with the kalimba and its unique bi-directional note layout. Songs include: “Kum Ba Ya”, “London Bridge”, “Michael Row Your Boat Ashore”, “Little Liza Jane”, “Happy Birthday to You”, “Jingle Bells”, “She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain”, and “Amazing Grace”.
