More Than Conquerors presents word-for-word excerpts from Civil War soldiers' letters, diaries, and letters to the editor that give their own description of their soldiering experiences -- the terrible, the merely fatiguing, and the humorous. These soldiers were members of the famed First Minnesota Regiment that made a memorable charge at Gettysburg. More specifically, they were members of its prayer group. So, an even-numbered page giving an excerpt is matched with an odd-numbered page quoting a few verses from Scripture. They experienced the war through the lens of their Christian faith.
