Inhaltsangabe

Live Not by Lies traces the fortunes of two families during the 69-year history of the Soviet Union. One family is that of Leonid Eitingon, a historical figure who functioned near the apex of Soviet power; he directed Trotsky's murder and helped destroy the lives of millions of people. The other family is headed by a former White Army colonel. If Eitingon and his ilk were "wreckers," the second family was among the "wrecked." Eitingon, Trotsky, Stalin, Beria, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera. Daniel Siqueiros, Isaac Babel, Andrei Sakharov, and Anna Akhmatove are all historical figures and characters in this story.

Über die Autorin bzw. den Autor

Patrick Coffey is also the author of Cathedrals of Science (Oxford University Press, 2008), a nonfiction examination of the rivalries that shaped modern chemistry. Publishers Weekly called it "an engrossing, often somber history." Chemistry World called it "A gripping page-turning narrative that elegantly combines popular science with a serious history of science." That book was positively blurbed by two Nobel laureates.
