t’s 1979, a year since American expat Erika Rivoli uncovered a Red Brigades kidnapping plot. Still living in Italy, she finds herself hunted by DIGOS, the Italian Security Services, for threatening to reveal their criminal role in the high-profile kidnapping. Her mentor and friend Giorgio Testa, a socialist journalist, employs Erika to translate his damning exposé into English, the lingua franca guaranteed to spread DIGOS’ assault on democracy to Italy’s allies and to the entire world.
For safety, Erika flees to Switzerland to bang out her translation. In her mountain hideout, she faces the harshest of alpine winters while evading the DIGOS hounds who intend to stop her at any cost. One pursuer is a former lover, an operative she betrayed in favor of exposing the truth. The chase is on through Italy, Switzerland, France, and England, with anyone’s guess as to who will prevail.
