“Whoever thinks you have to sacrifice authenticity to get great legal drama hasn’t read Ken Eichner. D.A. Diaries is gritty, real, and impossible to put down. The characters sparkle, the rhythms are right, and the story is first-rate. Simply terrific.”
—Craig Turk, Executive Producer, FBI and The Good Wife
Set in the hallowed courtrooms of our nation’s capital, D.A. Diaries explores the explosive combat zone of urban trial law through the sharp eyes of Clay Franklin, an experienced homicide prosecutor. When a legendary teacher is shot in cold blood, D.C. panics. The high-profile trial is assigned to Clay, who is equally as dedicated to chasing women as he is to bringing murderers to justice. As Clay confronts his new assignment, he reconnects with the woman of his dreams. But the euphoria of his budding relationship is overwhelmed by a progression of devastating events: key witnesses go silent, political pressure mounts, and a corrupt clan of police officers seeks to obliterate the case from the inside.
Clay’s passionate voice is revealed through witty observations and conversations with cynical office pals, crooked cops, drug-addled witnesses, and his burned-out psychiatrist. He regards the legal system, his dysfunctional family, and our nation’s capital with a unique wit that is at once comedic, troubling, moving, and, above all, honest.
D.A. Diaries is written by trial lawyer Kenneth F. Eichner, who grew up in Washington, D.C., and spent his life in the courtroom. He served as a deputy district attorney in Prince George’s County, Maryland, at the height of the crack epidemic, where he prosecuted murderers and received the Governor’s Citation for Outstanding Achievement. Then he changed sides, moved to Colorado, and founded a criminal defense firm. Penniless as a defense attorney, Ken started with court-appointed work and went on to represent the Sinaloa Cartel. Over the next three decades, his practice grew to include cases involving presidential candidates, witnesses in congressional hearings associated with Supreme Court justices, and some of the largest criminal cases in the country.
