Kyle Vernon is a veteran educator, author, and lifelong communicator of science whose career spans more than three decades in the classroom. For thirty-six years, he has taught secondary science, helping generations of students better understand astronomy, Earth science, and the natural world. He currently teaches astronomy at Frenship High School in West Texas.His teaching career has taken him far beyond the traditional classroom. From 2000 to 2002, Vernon taught overseas in the United Kingdom. From 1995 to 1999, he taught science to soldiers, sailors, and airmen serving in the United States military. During that period, he completed a six-month tour in a combat zone in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Altogether, his educational work has taken him to four nations and provided him with a wide range of experiences that continue to influence his writing.Vernon writes stories for readers of different ages and interests. His books include Digby Saves His Home, an adventure about a determined church mouse; A Davis Mountains Ghost Story, a supernatural mystery rooted in the landscape and history of West Texas; and illustrated books for young readers, including Welcome to Prairie Dog City. His work often combines history, science, folklore, humor, wildlife, and a strong sense of place.He also edits and republishes historic maritime works through Digby Star LLC, including the Sail Ho! trilogy by Sir James Bisset.
