Desert Haiku is dedicated to the country of Japan that gave the World the art of Haiku and to the Mojave Desert, the desert that inspired the content of the Haikus written in this book.

Haiku is the Japanese short poem that follows the five syllable, seven syllable, five syllable format. For many of us, we were introduced to it in high school English class. You might have even had to write a poem in the Haiku format for an assignment. It is not as easy as you would think. The brevity of the five-seven-five format can be difficult. For me, I became fascinated with the art form. At that time in high school, I had no idea that one day I would live in Japan. Nor did I even aspire to do so. I never dreamed of experiencing the country and the culture that inspired and created the artform. I am glad I did.
