Boards rubbed, spotted and soiled, and a bit faded. Corners bumped, cloth scraped off upper corner of front board. Paper along rear hinge split, but hinge still strong. Light foxing throughout, occasional fingerprint stains. Good. The first Dublin edition of Coulter's account of his experiences in the Pacific on the English whaler Stratford between 1832 and 1836, issued the same year (and with the same pagination) as the London edition. The book includes descriptions of the Falkland Islands, Chile, Juan Fernandez Island, the Galapagos, the Marquesas, and Tahiti. Of particular interest is his time on the Marquesas, which included dressing as a native and being tattooed to the extent of his "complete appearance as a native." The author also describes preparations for sperm whaling and his first experience killing a whale.
