Beschreibung

Beschreibung:

[24]pp. 12mo. Dbd. Light foxing and toning. Very good. A Revolutionary-era Massachusetts almanac, with "all things necessary, useful, and fit for such a work," including the assertion that the planets are aligned "for the good of America." The "Draper" named in the imprint is attributed by NAIP to Edward Draper, one of the least well known of the numerous printers in the Draper family. Isaiah Thomas notes in his seminal history of printing in America that Edward Draper, with a partner, published a newspaper for "some time during the war." Daniel George, the compiler, issued New England almanacs printed in various Massachusetts towns between 1776 and 1787, and later moved to Portland, Maine where he became a newspaper publisher. DRAKE 3261. EVANS 14773. ESTC W37173. Thomas, THE HISTORY OF PRINTING IN AMERICA (Barre: Imprint Society, 1970), p.146. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers WRCAM37697
