8vo. 8.5 x 5.5 inches. [iv] + 574 pp. Bound in contemporary half green morocco, gilt, over marbled boards. Extremities worn, with chips at head of spine and a little damp staining; otherwise a very good clean crisp interior. Illustrated by 2 folding engraved plates and by tables. Volume 19, 1793 of the periodical, Annals of Agriculture, initiated, edited, and partly written by the famous agriculturist, Arthur Young (1741-1820). It was published in forty five volumes, 1784-1815. This volume includes regular reports of market prices, comments on the state of the poor and numerous letters and articles by other agricultural improvers and breeders, including an account of husbandry in North America, especially Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Arthur Young was well known for his published volumes of agricultural tours, but the Annals also contain reports of many shorter journeys. In this volume are the Agricultural Minutes taken during a ride through fifteen south eastern, eastern and east and south Midland counties of England. The 1792 tour began at the home of the agricultural improver and writer, John Boys of Bettshanger, Kent, who kept the minutes. It proceeded via the Folkestone area and Hythe to Romney Marsh and hence onward for 679 miles. The minutes are signed by Boys and the famous sheep breeder, John Ellman of Glynde, Sussex, who also took part in the tour. (N68704).
