Most volumes appear to be unread. It also includes an oversized near-fine paperback, introduction. This introduction volume also contains the contents of all 20 volumes and an Index of Authors and Sources. The Encyclopædia Britannica published this edition in 1976, just in time for America's Bicentennial celebration. Each book is bound in blue leatherette with "The Annals of America" blindstamped on the front panel, with gilt titles and borders on the spine. The introduction makes clear that this set is composed of a documentary rather than a narrative history. If you're aware of the current textbook controversy, you will know that today's history books are often written by those with a strong political bias. However, these annals supply independent readers with the actual first-hand narratives themselves, thus allowing readers to come to their own conclusions and to make their own interpretations. The more than 1,000 authors were living and breathing recorders of their own remarkable times, starting with Christopher Columbus' "Discovery of the New World," which he wrote in 1493. The books include drawings, paintings, photographs, and maps throughout. Each volume measures 6 ½ by 9 ½ inches. Page numbering varies, generally running between 500 to 700 pages per volume. Due to the 48-pound weight, books will be shipped in two separate boxes. Domestic Media Mail shipping costs should come to around $48.00. (NOTE: International buyers should email us in advance of ordering, since shipping costs may be quite costly.). Buchnummer des Verkäufers 1iiAa0002
