18mo. 3.5 x 5.75 inches. 166 pp. Bound in recent half mottled morocco over marbled boards with new endpapers; spine in compartments with raised bands and gilt lines, gilt title. A well used copy with light foxing. A title, with a traditional attribution to Aristotle, but not in fact by him, first published in translation in 1595, although ESTC records no copies earlier than the twenty fifth edition of c. 1710. This copy does not include the often separately published Aristotle's Last Legacy. Antonius Zimaras, author of the second section, was active in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. This work, written in the form of a catechism, is in essence a medical manual with a particular emphasis on sexual matters ('Of carnal copulation') and this may explain the somewhat furtive manner of its publication with no named publisher.
