This very detailed story begins in Volume I with the author's account of lunch with the Churchills at Chartwell on August 1st, 1939 and ends in Volume II with the fall of France and the welcome of General de Gaulle to Number 10 by Winston Churchill. Volume I, signed and dated ( July ' 54 ) by the author on the title page, 332 pp, including 9 b/w illustrations and 3 maps all in good condition. Front and back endpapers in both volumes take the form of general maps of France and Belgium . The binding of Vol. I is cracked but not broken inside the front endpaper, while Vol. II is tight. Volume II, 333 pp, including 19 b/w illustrations all in good condition. Both volumes are rubbed at the extremities and have some scuffing to the cut edges.The gilt lettering is very bright on Vol. I and still legible on Vol. II. Apart from some lightly pencilled lines in a few margins the pages and actual text are very clean. May incur higher postal rate. Size: 5 1/2" x 8 3/4". Signed and dated by author.
