Ex-Library: with the usual sporadic stamps, blind-stamps and markings. Recently re-bound in half calf over marbled boards, spines ruled in gilt with red title labels. New end papers. Repaired tear to title page of volume I, and some repairs to the larger folding maps. A few plates with minor repairs to folds and margins. Occasional mild spotting, also occasional toning and markings to margins. Overall a 'Very Good' set. The second (considered best edition) of the official account of Cook's First Voyage and subsequent discoveries; with the additional preface addressing charges of poor editing. Some wonderful plates, including the portrait of a Maori warrior and one of the earliest printed views of a Kangaroo. A compelling narrative and a key work in the history of travel and exploration.
