Included are addresses, messages, etc. of George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson, Martin Van Buren, William Henry Harrison, and John Tyler. (Note: Uncommon 3rd edition with the contents extending to the administration of John Tyler - though both the 'Advertisement' and the Contents state the book ends with the inaugural address of William Henry Harrison, the book actually concludes with John Tyler's inaugural address, special session message, first annual message, etc.). Nicely decorated cloth covers with a gilt patriotic front cover illustration featuring George Washington and an American eagle. There are three pages of publisher's advertisements at the front. From the Advertisement: "Apart from their public utility, these documents must ever be considered of great value, from the high rank they deservedly retain in their literary reputation, as gems of republican eloquence and rhetorical skill, exhibiting specimens of some of the purest models of style which are to be found in our language." Condition: The cloth on the covers has partially faded along the perimeters. There are some tiny, dark specks along the right edge of the back cover. Small cloth tears at the top and bottom edges of the spine. A small piece of cloth has chipped away near the bottom-right corner of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Consistent light foxing to the pages throughout the book (though heavier foxing on the end papers).
