There is a two inch library stamp on the title page and also on the back endpaper. There is a very small cut of dates on the upper left side of the back endpaper. Adolf Hitler raises peculiar problems. Writing about a man responsible for such overwhelming evil inevitably has a moral as well as a normal historical or philosophical dimension. Hitler turned his crazy pipe dreams into the deaths of millions of people and a living nightmare for millions more. Should we even attempt to explain him? And if we do, is there not a danger of personalizing evil, easily placing the blame on the peculiarities of one individual when in reality, 'responsibility was more broadly spread? What of those who supported him, kept silent, or remained indifferent?
