Smart ceramic coatings containing multifunctional components are now finding application in transportation and automotive industries, in electronics, and energy sectors, in aerospace and defense, and in industrial goods and healthcare. Their wide application and stability in harsh environments are only possible due to the stability of the inorganic components used. Ceramic coatings are typically silicon nitride, chromia, hafnia, alumina, alumina-magnesia, silica, silicon carbide, titania, and zirconia-based compositions. The increased demand for these materials and their application in energy, transportation, and the automotive industry, are considered, to be the main drivers.

Ram Gupta is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Pittsburg State University, Kansas, United States. His research focus is in green energy production and storage using nanomaterials, optoelectronics and photovoltaics devices, organic-inorganic heterojunctions for sensors, nanomagnetism, conducting polymers and composites as well as bio-based polymers, bio-compatible nanofibers for tissue regeneration, scaffold and antibacterial applications, and bio-degradable metallic implants.

Amir Motallebzadeh received his Ph.D. in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from Istanbul Technical University in 2015. During his Ph.D., he studied microstructural characterization and mechanical properties of hardfacing coatings at high temperatures. In 2016, he joined Koç University Surface Science and Technology Center (KUYTAM) as a researcher. His research activities focus mainly on metallic and ceramic thin films, magnetron sputtering, high-entropy alloys, hard facing alloys, surface characterization methods, mechanical properties of coatings and tribology.

Dr. Saeid Kakooei is currently a Senior Research Engineer (Research Scholar) with the School of Materials Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA He received his PhD in Mechanical (Corrosion) Engineering from University Technology PETRONAS, Malaysia in 2014, MSc in Corrosion Engineering and BSc in Material Engineering from Iran in 2006 and 1999, respectively. His research specialization is Material/Corrosion engineering. He has been involved in several research and consultancy projects related to corrosion problems in the oil & gas industries.

Tuan Anh Nguyen is a Senior Principal Research Scientist at the Institute for Tropical Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Hanoi, Vietnam. He received a BS in physics from Hanoi University in 1992, a BS in economics from Hanoi National Economics University in 1997, and a PhD in chemistry from the Paris Diderot University, France, in 2003. He was a Visiting Scientist at Seoul National University, South Korea, in 2004, and the University of Wollongong, Australia, in 2005. He then worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate and Research Scientist at Montana State University, United States in 2006-09. In 2012 he was appointed as the Head of the Microanalysis Department at the Institute for Tropical Technology. His research areas of interest include smart sensors, smart networks, smart hospitals, smart cities, complexiverse, and digital twins. He has edited more than 74 books for Elsevier, 12 books for CRC Press, 1 book for Springer, 1 book for RSC, and 2 books for IGI Global. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Kenkyu Journal of Nanotechnology & Nanoscience.

Dr. Ajit Behera is currently working as an Assistant. Professor in the Metallurgical & Materials Department at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela. He completed his PhD at IIT-Kharagpur in 2016. He received the National "IEI Young Engineer Award" in 2022, "Yuva Rattan Award" in 2020, "C.V. Raman Award" in 2019, and "young faculty award" in 2017. He has published more than 180 publications, including books, Book chapters, and Journals. 05 PhD students awarded under his supervision and more than 10 PhD students are from his institute/outside the institute are working on different projects with him. Currently, he has published one textbook "Advanced Materials" which is a recognized book worldwide (https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-030-80359-9). Currently, assigned as The Honorary Secretary of The Institution of Engineers (India), Rourkela. His area of research is high temperature materials, surface engineering, smart materials, aero-space materials and characterization of materials. He is one of the Director of AMPRE ENGG. PVT. LTD.
