Inhaltsangabe
This volume is a collection of the Eurographics tutorials presented at the Eurographics '90 conference in September 1990 in Montreux. Image synthesis is a traditional topic of Eurographics. It has become clear in recent years that there is an unnaturally great distance between the two large fields of image synthesis and image analysis - the latter includes such areas as image processing, computer vision, image coding techniques, and 3D reconstruction. These two large fields of computer science and technology have developed in parallel with little or no contact, yet there is now a whole range of theoretical problems and application areas where the mixture of these two approaches is not fruitful but also necessary. The advances in recent years in medical imaging and its applications, in scientific visualization, and in the need for sophisticated input and interaction techniques have all contributed to this development. The tutorial programme of Eurographics '90 was strongly influenced by this approach. There are ranges of high-level tutorials in the fields both of image synthesis and image analysis, to give a combination of the fields in one volume. In particular, there is a tutorial on volume visualization, an introduction to image processing, tutorials on X/PEX programming, intelligent CAD systems, and image reconstruction, and an interdisciplinary tutorial on the human visual system which might be of interest to all experts working in image synthesis and image analysis.
Reseña del editor
This book is a collection of several tutorials from the EUROGRAPHICS '90 conference in Montreux. The conference was held under the motto "IMAGES: Synthesis, Analysis and Interaction", and the tutorials, partly presented in this volume, reflect the conference theme. As such, this volume provides a unique collection of advanced texts on 'traditional' com puter graphics as well as of tutorials on image processing and image reconstruction. As with all the volumes of the series "Advances in Computer Graphics", the contributors are leading experts in their respective fields. The chapter Design and Display of Solid Models provides an extended introduction to interactive graphics techniques for design, fast display, and high-quality rendering of solid models. The text focuses on techniques for Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG). The follow ing topics are treated in depth: interactive design techniques (specification of curves, surfaces and solids; graphical user interfaces; procedural languages and direct manipulation) and display techniques (depth-buffer, scan-line and ray-tracing techniques; CSG classification techniques; efficiency-improving methods; software and hardware implementations).
