Photographer David Turton has been capturing images of the Jersey Shore with his unique, artist's eye for decades, and his photographs grace the homes of thousands of shore residents and visitors.
On the morning after Superstorm Sandy devastated much of the Jersey Shore, David headed out on foot and by boat to document the storm's aftermath. In this book are presented David's visionary images of the catastrophe on the barrier Island from Seaside Heights to Point Pleasant Beach. These original, never before published photographs preserve not only the aftereffects of the Superstorm in this region but also David's personal journey through his beloved and now destroyed Jersey Shore.
The book includes the Ocean County barrier island towns of Seaside Heights, Ortley Beach, Lavallette, Normandy Beach, Mantoloking, Bay Head, and Point Pleasant Beach.
His astonishing images, which include numerous two foot wide panoramas, will take you right upon the breaches of the barrier island, and you will see the immediate consequences to these communities as never before.
Also included are a selection of David's beautiful photographs before the storm allowing for before and after comparisons that bring a greater understanding of the disaster.
Rarely has there been a book that has documented in such detail the aftermath of a catastrophic storm. With more than 200 historic photographs, this important book records and preserves what happened to this region for future generations lest they forget the unfathomable power of the sea.
Aftermath, Volume II, David's book documenting the Superstorm in Monmouth County from Manasquan to Sea Bright was released in June 2014.
About the Author:
A lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, David Turton realized at an early age that he had a talent for seeing beauty in places that others overlooked. With camera in hand, David would wander the beaches, sidewalks, and roads of coastal towns like Bay Head, Point Pleasant Beach, Manasquan, and Spring Lake, snapping away until he found the photo that so perfectly captured the sense of place.
As he has evolved as an artist, David has produced stunning results using creative techniques such as stitching together 180 to 360-degree panoramic images and printing photos on canvas, which are then gallery wrapped. He has been established as a real estate photographer as well, shooting the interior and exterior of residential homes and commercial properties. David also captures unique individual and family portraits, as well as producing creative products such as greeting cards, calendars, mouse pads, and more.
David's photographs have been recognized and published by top organizations from around the globe including The New York Times Homes Magazine, Jersey Shore Magazine, the American Red Cross, New Balance, and local businesses.
With a flair for creating images that dazzle and captivate, David's work can be found throughout the Jersey Shore and beyond.
