Oblong folio. Green leather-grain cloth with "Photographs" in gilt on front board. Gift inscription to Skiff (although internal evidence suggests all the images are by Skiff) dated in 1948. 300 mostly gelatin silver photographs with different finishes, various sizes, most in slightly larger than usual formats between 4" x 5" and 7" x 9.75". A couple of images lacking, a few are a little oxidized, and some of the images have been "artistically" mounted resulting in some overlap, but most are at least near fine. Lovely images, included are a couple of newspaper articles indicating that Skiff, a sales manager for an insurance company who lived in Wetherfield, Connecticut, (a suburb of Hartford) was a talented and frequently awarded amateur photographer. The accolades were well-deserved and the album provides a generous selection of impressive images on a wide variety of subjects: Colonial style and rustic scenes in Connecticut, scenes in Hartford (I think), several beautiful studies of boats on the water, snow scenes, a few studies of Native Americans, seashore images, midget racing pictures, a baseball game, golf images, a wrecked car, a woman playing an organ, several prosaic but well-composed images of family members including an older man with a police badge, a teenage boy with a basketball, and a gamin young lady, group photos of various gatherings, and very many others.
