Most of the postcards are unposted; some real photo, some printed. Album is dated 1924-1927. The photos and postcards are attached using slits, so can easily be removed. Not all slots are filled. Several pieces of ephemera laid in. Overall good; album pages chipped on edges. Self Published Includes 62 vintage postcards of Japan, including Osaka Castle; Nara; Horiuji; Japanese art and sculpture; the Wedded Rocks at Futami; Ise; Cave of the Sun Goddess; Koyosan (home of the Shinto sect); a Nestorian monument. 35 photographs are of of family and scenery in Japan, including the deer at Nara; Horiuji; going up Mt Koya at Koyosan; public school children at Koyosan saluting; pilgrims at Koyosan; students of the Koyosan Daijuken on way to celebration in 1924; students on the way to Kobo Daishi Temple; monks at Koyosan; Temple of Kobo Daishi, and more. A postcard of the Empress of Canada indicates the family returned to the US in 1924. They then took a train across Canada to their home (Pennsylvania). There are 10 photos of traveling by train through British Columbia; Banff; Canadian Rockies; Three Sisters; Lake Louise, Alberta; and the Great Divide between British Columbia and Alberta. 46 photographs are of family outings: Lake Geneva WI in 1924; Sewickley PA (home at last September 1924); Broad Brook April 1925,; Lake Placid 1925; and more. A large group portrait is entitled 'Summer School Theology Lancaster Penna 1925'. Other postcards (6) include Lancaster County PA; Lake Buell, MA 1927; King Ravine on Spur Trail, NH; Cold Brook Falls, NH, Pine Mountain Gorham, NH. The album also records a family trip to Europe in 1925, with 11 postcards and 12 photographs of France and 40 photographs and 26 postcards of Italy, Netherlands, Austria and Belgium. . Many with captions on the pages or on the backs of the photographs. The album documents a family's travel mainly in Japan, but also in Europe and the eastern United States. Internal evidence suggests the family may have lived in Japan in the early 1900s and were possibly missionaries, although this is not clear.
