Your Album of World Cinemas by Harry H. Strong, a unique selection of drawings of interiors or exteriors of 25 movie palaces in different parts of the world (North America, Caribbean, South America, North Africa, Europe, and Asia). Judging from interior text, the book was published in 1946 or 1947. Book Condition: Very good. The text block is in near fine condition with no marks, dog ears, or tears. The pages are age-tanned. Not a library book nor a remainder. No bookplate. No signature of previous owner. Saddle-stapled binding is strong. The decorative cover has a few tiny spots and small discolored areas, along with a bit of edge wear. XX In the immediate postwar (WW2) era audiences flocked to the movie palaces worldwide. Most of those cavernous cinemas had been built in the 1930s, but a few news ones came after the war. This unique book contains full-page drawings and one-paragraph descriptions of various movie palaces throughout the world, only a few of which survive 70 years later: Cinema-Theatre La Renaissance (Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe), New Cinema (Chipping Norton, Oxford, England), Empire Theatre (Bridgetown, Barbados, British West Indies), Teatro Colonial (Catagena, Colombia), The Olimpia (Trujillo City, Dominican Republic), The Elysee (Helsinki, Finland, built in 1938), The Rex (Zurich, Switzerland), Metro Theatre (Adelaide, Australia), Cine Ritz (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Vogue (Vancouver, B.C., Canada, opened in 1941), Metro Theatre (Durban, Union of South Africa), St James Theatre (Auckland, New Zealand), Trocadero (Montevideo, Uruguay), Metro Theatre (Bombay/Mumbai, India), Rex Cinema (Singapore, British Malaya, owned by famous movie producers, Runme and Run Run Shaw, opened in 1946), Empire Cinema (Oran, Algeria), Rex Cine (Cayes, Haiti), Rigoletto Theatre (Stockholm, Sweden), The Playhouse (Hamilton, Bermuda), Metro Theatre (Brisbane, Australia), Cineac Le Journal newsreel theater (Montmartre, Paris, France), Gran Teatro Opera (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Lale Theatre (Istanbul, Turkey), Metro Theatre (Santurce, Puerto Rico, still in existence), Austurbaejar Bio Theatre (Reykjavik, Iceland, holding on as an events venue), Normandie Theatre (Santiago, Chile), Raventos Theatre (San Jose, Costa Rica), LaSalle Theatre (Montreal, Canada).
