Praised by William Boyd, and Hilary Mantel, both brilliant writers who can tell good from bad. This is a wonderful book, and quite rare to find as a signed first printing in the first edition hardback. Burn wrote this novel as if in Alma Cogan's voice, imagining the successful British singer hadn't died in 1966 but instead was still living in obscurity and isolation in the 1980s. A cogent dissection of fame and its dark counterpart notoriety, it is an examination of present day celeb stuff as well. Protected unclipped jacket. Binding firm and square, no damaged corners. This includes the inserted reproduction of Sir Peter Blake's portrait of the 50s pop singer. A tragedy that this fine writer died this year. Extremely rare as a signed first printing. Book by Burn Gordon

Reseña del editor:

Alma Cogan was Britain's best-selling vocalist of the 1950s. In this novel the author becomes Alma Cogan. A blend of fact and fiction, the book reinvents the popular culture of the post-war years. This book is the winner of the 1991 Whitbread Prize for a first novel.
