Hardback. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 349 pages, plus 9 p. of book ads; 5 p. index; "Embellished by 35 fine wood engravings" including a hand-colored frontispiece; this Manual, "being a Practical Treatise on the history and domestic economy of the honey-bee embracing a full illustration of the whole subject, with the most approved methods of managing this insect through every branch of its culture, the result of many years' experience." Book condition: Covers have some moderate soil, cover corners are bent a little, and three are showing some board from wear; spine ends show some rubbing-wear; front cover is canted over the rear cover, circa 0.25 inches past a vertical line projected from the edge of the rear cover; edges have darkened to a moderate dusty tan color; internally, the endpapers have some light tan color foxing and some soil, but body of text is mainly clear and foxing-free (rear endpaper is missing, but another adjacent blank page now serves in its place). Book giver's pencil handwritten message is on the blank page obverse of the frontispiece. Otherwise, book is O.K., binding tight, hinges firm, etc.
