This Dodd, Mead book, copyrighted in 1914, is in VG- condition; if it was issued with a jacket, there is no jacket now. It is 7/1/2" x 4-7/8" with 251 numbered pages and a page listing the frontis + 8, one of which is a map of the island. The exterior is clean and free of edge dings; it has a modest lean, lightly bumped lower corners without fabric damage and lightly bumped spine ends--the heel has several very tiny tears in the fabric. The spine is somewhat worn (see photo)though the lettering is perfectly legible; the front panel illustration is in very nice condition with no serious damage, just very light wear. Except for an attractive personalized book plate on the front paste down, the interior is very clean and completely free of writing, stray marks and page damage; several pages have finger print and smudge stains on them, confined to the margins and not affecting the text. Hinges are quite strong and not damaged in any way; however, between the last fep and the frontis, the cheese cloth is visible, as it is between pages 14-15; even so, the front hinge remains strong.
